Chinese Qihoo 360’s third generation of child tracking watch uses u-blox GNSS technology

Kids Guard 3S is designed to track children’s whereabouts, using u-blox positioning technology.

Qihoo 360 (NYSE: QIHU), China leader in mobile security solutions, has launched a third generation of child tracking watch, developed again in collaboration with u-blox (SIX:UBXN), a global leader in wireless and positioning modules and chips. Kids Guard 3S, a personal tracker in a tiny and colourful watch format, is designed to monitor the whereabouts of children.

“We wanted to offer a high performance tracking solution, accurate enough to reassure parents worried by their child’s whereabouts, as child abduction is a serious concern in China. u-blox has already demonstrated with leading brands of children watches in China its unique combination of wireless communication and GNSS positioning technologies.”

“And considering the quality and robustness of its products, u-blox can become our strategic partner,” explains You Wenxuan, Manager of Hardware Center at Qihoo 360.

The updated watch has multiple functions, including real time location, integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, two-side call, single-side monitoring, voice intercom, and recording. Its positioning accuracy is 5 meters outdoors and 20 meters indoors. Its 520 mAh Gel Polymer Lithium battery can last up to 5 days on standby mode.

“It was very exciting to collaborate with Qihoo 360, as we at u-blox are committed to support our customers by combining technologies for reliable solutions,” explains Tonny Zhong, Country Manager at u-blox China. “As more wearable products and applications will be developed in the near future, we expect more collaboration opportunities with Qihoo 360,” he adds.

The u-blox UBX-G7020-CT chip is currently embedded in Kids Guard 3S.
