NimbeLink, Sierra Wireless, and GetWireless Announce Cat 4 Cellular Modem

Sierra Wireless module powers NimbeLink Skywire™ Cat 4 modem distributed by GetWireless for Verizon and AT&T cellular networks.

NimbeLink and Sierra Wireless will join GetWireless in that company’s booth at the CTIA Super Mobility 2016 show to present the new Skywire Cat 4 embedded modem. This high-speed modem is available in versions for both Verizon and AT&T cellular networks and supports download speeds of up to 150 Mbps. The new modem is based on the Sierra Wireless HL7588 cellular module and will be available in certified versions for both Verizon and AT&T cellular networks. The two versions utilize the same hardware and differ only in firmware. In addition to its higher bandwidth, the LTE Cat 4 modem features low latency, useful in many applications, and the long product life assured by rollout on the LTE network.

Use of the cutting-edge Sierra Wireless module allows firmware in the Skywire Cat 4 modems to be “flashed” for over-the-air updates via Sierra Wireless AVMS, ensuring that the modems and the products that use them can be kept up-to-date.

The Skywire Cat 4 modem is the only Sierra Wireless-based embedded Cat 4 modem on the market. Like all members of the Skywire modem family, they feature Skywire’s smallest-in-the-industry size, share the Skywire embedded modem line’s XBee footprint and are supported with full documentation, development kits, and microprocessor capes and adapters.

Created by award-winning developers, NimbeLink’s cellular modems are the easiest way to speed cellular-enabled IoT and M2M products to market. Available in both embedded and external Ethernet and serial link formats, Skywire modems are the economical choice for global cellular connectivity.

Bryan Rasmussen, COO of GetWireless, said:

“We are excited to be the strategic partner and sales channel for the new NimbeLink Skywire™ CAT 4. This product allows us to strengthen our embedded product offering and get our clients to market faster.”
