YuanTel Announces Qualcomm Technologies Based LTE IoT Wearables Devices and Services in China

Innovative new LTE IoT tracker based on Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1200 platform planned to be available later this year.

YuanTel announced today, wearable devices based on the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Wear 1200 platform featuring support for LTE IoT Category M1 (eMTC) and NB1 (NB-IoT) radio technologies, as well as associated services, at Mobile World Congress Shanghai.

These devices and services are planned to be available later this year. YuanTel is the second ranked mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) in China among the 42 licensees, as measured by subscriber size, settlement volume, and service quality, has more than 8 million subscribers, and boasts a strong independent product portfolio and innovation capabilities, including M2M modules for the Internet of Things (IoT).

YuanTel will utilize its strong R&D and experience in communication services and leverage reference design from Borqs based on Snapdragon Wear 1200, to offer and accelerate commercialization of comprehensive solutions ranging from smart connected devices to E2E cloud platforms. The LTE IoT smart wearable products and reference designs based on the Snapdragon Wear platform will target smartwatches, kid and elderly watches, smart bracelets, fitness bands, pet trackers, bicycle sharing and more – all in support of low-power, “always connected” and untethered experiences.

“We are very glad to use Qualcomm Technologies’ platforms to develop and commercialize applications for smart wearable devices. As a leading MVNO operator in China and based on the deep understanding of China’s network status and features, YuanTel firmly believes that it can rapidly respond to the consumer demand by taking our R&D innovation, business models and utilization of the Snapdragon Wear 1200 platform into more diversified products,” said Mr. Wang Lei, president of YuanTel.

At MWC Shanghai, Qualcomm Technologies announced the Snapdragon Wear 1200 platform, which takes advantage of the emerging LTE IoT technology in mobile networks to help usher in a new generation of ultra-low power, highly energy efficient, and always connected experiences enabled by targeted purpose wearable devices such as kid, pet, elderly, and fitness trackers. Snapdragon Wear 1200 complements the existing Snapdragon Wear 2100 and Snapdragon Wear 1100 platforms, extending the proven Snapdragon Wear product family across the smart wearables segments.

“The wearables industry continues to thrive with new innovations in LTE IoT standards and business models,” said Pankaj Kedia, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

“The newly announced Snapdragon Wear 1200 supports the required features for a range of smart tracking devices targeting kids, pets, elderly and fitness. We are excited about working with YuanTel, who are taking advantage of Cat M1 and NB-IoT, and bringing exciting wearables products to the IoT space.”

As one of the top ranked MVNO operators in China in 2016, YuanTel’s installed capacity of front-end in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) exceeded 300 thousand units, and the subscription base for its IoT accounts is now more than 100 thousand. Based on its proprietary BOSS cloud platform, YuanTel offers tailored communications services with flexible business models. Its modular solution suites include support from the device to the cloud and from the SDK to operational branded services.
YuanTel enables its ecosystem partners to address growing IoT segments such as consumer wearables, IVI and smart city services. YuanTel’s Snapdragon Wear 1200 based smartwatches and trackers will support the different China carrier bands, water resistant IP67, GPS and motion sensors, the ability for VoLTE, status / alerts and various display types, as well as software configurability for different applications.
