Locaid, the world’s largest Location-as-a-Service company, and Wyless, the leading global M2M managed services provider, today announced an agreement whereby Locaid will provide location-based services (LBS) to Wyless customers and partners across the globe.
Wyless will be integrating Locaid’s Location-as-a-Service (LaaS) into Porthos, Wyless’s award-winning management platform. Wyless customers and partners will soon be able to access “on demand” location details of their Wyless-enabled M2M devices throughout the U.S. and Europe. In partnership with Locaid, Wyless will provide LBS across the world in the 120+ countries covered by the Wyless network. A new service will enable customers to use an application in Porthos to directly access the device location to build LBS capabilities into their own applications.
“We selected Locaid because we needed a location provider with a global footprint and the ability to scale across our entire customer base,” said Dan McDuffie, CEO of Wyless.
“Locaid’s location platform is a key part of our plan to build the leading ‘multi-carrier managed services capability’ in the M2M market.”
“The LBS partnership with Locaid will provide Wyless customers and partners with carrier-grade location without the need for a separate GPS device, without hardware modifications, application downloads, user interaction, service calls or software,” said Art Nava, technical services director, Wyless.
“It adds value to our customers’ and partners’ applications whether in healthcare, asset tracking, security or entertainment by providing location verification of devices.”
Rip Gerber, Locaid president and CEO, said, “Wyless has built a powerful M2M platform that can be accessed from virtually anywhere by any portable device. M2M platforms are in high demand this year, and we are pleased that Locaid surpassed the rigorous technical and business specifications from Wyless, a well-respected leader in global M2M managed services.“
