Red Bend’s vLogix Mobile™ Extends Customers’ Investment in the AirPrime™ Wireless Modules as They Upgrade to 3G Technologies
Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM) with more than 1.5 billion Red Bend-Enabled™ devices, today announced that Sierra Wireless has licensed Red Bend’s vLogix Mobile™ software for Mobile Virtualization for use in its AirPrime™ embedded wireless modules.
As a result, Sierra Wireless’ customers can extend their investment in applications written for 2G networks as they upgrade to 3G network technologies.
With Red Bend’s vLogix Mobile integrated into Sierra Wireless AirPrime 3G modules, machine-to-machine (M2M) application providers now have access, on a 3G device, to the industry-leading Open AT® Application Framework, originally designed for 2G networks. Red Bend’s Mobile Virtualization solution allows AirPrime customers to reduce costs and time to market by enabling the reuse of 2G software and applications when migrating to 3G. The Open AT Application Framework provides pre-integrated building blocks and tools that make development easier and less expensive. These tools are field-proven, with a 10-year track record of success. Through the collaboration between Sierra Wireless and Red Bend, customers can focus their time and resources on delivering innovative M2M applications and capabilities, instead of on integrating hardware components and rewriting basic software layers.
Pierre Teyssier, Senior Vice President of Engineering, M2M Embedded Solutions for Sierra Wireless said:
“Red Bend’s Mobile Virtualization solution enables us to simultaneously support two operating environments in our AirPrime SL808x devices, helping our customers to reduce the cost of transitioning to newer 3G networks without requiring them to rewrite existing applications designed for 2G.”
“Red Bend has been a trusted collaborator with Sierra Wireless since 2007, providing FOTA updating and device management software to our lineup of USB modems, PC cards, embedded modules and machine-to-machine products, so it’s natural we would turn to Red Bend for Mobile Virtualization as well.”
Red Bend’s vLogix Mobile is the leading Type-1 mobile hypervisor licensed by more manufacturers to virtualize more commercially available smartphones and connected devices than all other Mobile Virtualization products combined. vLogix Mobile integrates with Red Bend’s complete suite of Mobile Software Management solutions, including vRapid Mobile® for firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updating, vDirect Mobile® for device management and application management, and vSense Mobile™ for software analytics.
“Sierra Wireless has earned its position as a leader in M2M solutions because of its commitment to excellence and innovation,” said Yoram Salinger, CEO of Red Bend Software.
“The collaboration between our companies continues to grow stronger because we share the same passion for delivering the very best products and solutions in the mobile industry. Customers using Red Bend-Enabled modules from Sierra Wireless have already experienced the advantages of standards-based over-the-air software updating and device management. Now, Red Bend’s Mobile Virtualization solution will enable AirPrime customers to bring products to market more quickly and cost-effectively.”
