New Satellite-Free Positioning Capability Available in All Telit M2M Modules in 2013.
Rx Networks Inc., a leading mobile location technology company, today announced that its customer, Telit Wireless Solutions, is to launch a new positioning facility branded “m2mLOCATE™” using Rx Networks’ XYBRID RT™ service.
XYBRID RT (real-time) is a cloud-based service that provides a device’s position based on observed Wi-Fi access points and/or cellular Cell-IDs. Optionally, XYBRID RT can also provide real-time GNSS assistance data to accelerate satellite-based fixes.
Backed by a global database of over 220 million access points and 40 million cell-IDs, XYBRID RT can provide a position for every use-case including indoors/underground, outdoors, and boundary situations. For devices with GNSS capability and a view of the satellites, XYBRID RT provides a position while the GNSS makes a more accurate fix. In the event satellites are not visible (e.g. deep indoors or underground), or the device has no GNSS apparatus, then a position is still provided based on observed Wi-Fi or cellular signals.
m2mLOCATE is available to-date for Telit’s GE864 family, GE865, GL865-Dual and Quad as well as the GC864-Quad V2 modules. The company is evaluating an extension of the service to include Wi-Fi and/or GNSS. When that is done, customers will automatically benefit from the additional capabilities XYBRID RT provides.
XYBRID RT is part of a full suite of complementary products from Rx Networks. Plans are already underway to incorporate GPStream PGPS™ (extended ephemeris for GPS and GLONASS) into GNSS equipped Telit modules.
“We are pleased to be working with Telit, an innovative and leading global M2M module supplier,” commented Guylain Roy-MacHabée, CEO of Rx Networks.
“As machines are increasingly becoming connected, a scalable and integrated approach to location enablement helps ensure all M2M markets and use-cases are addressed. By offering m2mLOCATE, Telit is extending location enablement to markets previously unserviceable, whether due to costs or limited GNSS coverage.”
Dominikus Hierl, chief marketing officer at Telit Wireless Solutions, said:
“Many of our customers only require city-block level accuracy for positioning. Since a cellular transceiver is already on the module, m2mLOCATE can enable location support without the added cost of the GNSS apparatus. Customers who require finer accuracy can add GNSS support to their device and benefit from m2mLOCATE’s ability to enhance GNSS performance in difficult conditions.”
