Sensinode Announces Commercial Support of OMA Lightweight M2M at Mobile World Congress

A live demonstration and commercial support for the new Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Lightweight M2M enabler were unveiled by Sensinode this week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Sensinode plans to add support for the new standard, which implements the interface between M2M devices and M2M servers, in its NanoService™ Platform, making it the first commercial system to support the new standard for efficient M2M devices and networks.

Sensinode provides end-to-end software products that extend IP and web services all the way to the end node, combining highly optimized embedded client software with a scalable management and web applications platform. Sensinode’s software brings web services to the most demanding enterprise applications in the Internet of Things.

The Lightweight M2M Enabler is being standardized in the Open Mobile Alliance by Sensinode and other major operators and vendors active in the M2M market. It marks a fundamental shift in the M2M marketplace by defining the first open M2M system solution for both device management and application data over both Cellular and Wireless Sensor Network devices. The new enabler is extremely efficient, with overhead starting at just 31 bytes per packet including end-to-end public key based security, as a result of the IETF Constrained Application Protocol.

As a company we believe in open standards as the growth engine of the M2M market,” says Zach Shelby, co-founder of Sensinode.

“With a common approach across cellular mobile and wireless sensor environments, the OMA Lightweight M2M standards will be a game changer in this industry. Integration of the standard into Sensinode NanoServices will result in the leading Internet of Things software solution.”

During a live Open Mobile Alliance event at MWC today, Sensinode demonstrated an end-to-end Outdoor Lighting solution from devices to the cloud with both street lights and mBed devices powered by a low-power ARM® Cortex processor.

Commercial NanoService support for the OMA Lightweight M2M enabler will be available in Q3/2013.
