SIGFOX Global Network Enabling One of World’s Largest Deployments of Devices on Internet of Things

Project with Securitas Direct and Abertis in Spain Will Connect Millions of Security Devices.

SIGFOX, a pioneer in cost-effective, energy-efficient Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, is partnering with Securitas Direct and Abertis Telecom in Spain on one of the world’s most ambitious deployments of connected security devices.

Securitas Direct, the leading security systems provider in Spain and Europe, will connect and monitor millions of devices in customers’ homes and businesses via SIGFOX’s dedicated IoT network, which Abertis is deploying throughout Spain on its extensive network of telecommunication towers.

The SIGFOX global IoT network, which is operating in several European countries and will be deployed on the West and East Coasts of the U.S. this year, is designed exclusively for two-way, small-message communications. This eliminates the cost and energy-use barriers to wide implementation of IoT and machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions, and greatly extends the battery and service life of connected devices.

Abertis Telecom’s network and SIGFOX’s system developed for the Internet of Things are an ideal way to connect devices for security applications, because of the solution’s energy savings and low cost, according to Securitas Direct.

Abertis’s collaboration with Securitas Direct and SIGFOX is a classic use case for how state-of-the-art infrastructure, technology and innovation can deliver the benefits of the Internet of Things to consumers, according to Abertis Telecom.

Jaap Groot, SIGFOX vice president of global sales, said:

“Securitas Direct is Spain’s leading supplier of alarms and connected services for smart homes, and this deployment demonstrates again the diverse services that SIGFOX’s IoT network allows. The network deployment in Spain by Abertis Telecom is a major step towards our goal of 1 billion connections.”
