Embedded System-on-Module (SoM) Compatible with ARM® mbed™ Platform.
MultiTech Systems, Inc. a leading global manufacturer of M2M and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, today introduced the MultiConnect® Dragonfly™ a complete, ready to integrate, embedded cellular System-on-Module (SoM) that offers developers the functionality of a programmable computing platform with the convenience of an onboard cellular radio, all in one compact design. MultiConnect Dragonfly is compatible with ARM mbed, allowing for rapid prototyping and development.
The MultiConnect Dragonfly can be used as an embedded cellular SoM providing optimal design and application flexibility for mobile Internet of Things applications including digital signage and transportation, or it can be used as an embedded cellular modem requiring little or no modification to existing design. Design-in and retrofit capabilities drastically shorten time to market for existing or new products requiring cellular connectivity. With its integrated ARM Cortex®-M4 processor, developers can host their application and have access to a full suite of interfaces for connecting sensors or other remote assets.
“The ARM mbed development environment easily integrates hardware and software for rapid prototyping, reducing proof of concept and deployment cycles, while simplifying and enhancing application management operations,” said Derek Wallace, Manager Product Management at MultiTech.
“The release of MultiConnect Dragonfly is generating new demand, accelerating growth, and expanding MultiTech’s share of the M2M market,” said MultiTech CEO Stefan Lindvall. “We are fortunate to work with leaders like ARM and share their interest in driving development across numerous vertical markets.”
“MulitTech’s MultiConnect Dragonfly is simple yet highly functional and it offers the kind of fast development solution that IoT innovators are looking for,” said Simon Ford, vice president of products, IoT business, ARM.
“The speed in which designers can deliver products is important as the IoT is constantly moving and time to market can be a critical success factor. Dragonfly helps as it brings together several necessary technology elements onto one System-on-Module, condensing the design phases to achieve certification for a cellular-connected device.”
The MultiConnect Dragonfly will be available to purchase in December for deliveries in first quarter 2016.
