Innovative broadcaster demonstrates value of LoRa technology.
Actility, the industry leader in Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN), and operator Ceske Radiokomunikace are proud to announce the deployment of a pilot LoRa network in the city of Prague and the 13 largest regional cities of the Czech Republic – the first time a LoRa network has been deployed at such a large scale in the Czech Republic.
The trial will prepare for a national roll-out, and allow customers to engage with LoRa technology in a number of applications, including Smart Industry, Smart Cities, Smart Building and Logistics. The LoRa core network service is delivered through Actility’s ThingPark Wireless solution, a fully integrated platform for the Internet of Things, allowing objects to connect and to communicate with a range of up to 15 km. Making use of 43 Ceske Radiokomunikace broadcast masts for base stations means that the technology is deployed at the highest points in the cities, and can be exploited at its maximum range.
“IoT is an extremely important technology for the future. We can already see great interest from businesses and governments in this revolutionary innovation. IoT is a key element of Ceske Radiokomunikace’s vision and technology roadmap,” explains Petr Sichrovský, CCO at Ceske Radiokomunikace. “We selected Actility’s ThingPark because the capability is very well aligned with our needs. Through the ThingPark Wireless OSS (Operations Support System), Ceske Radiokomunikace will be able to monitor our network performance in real time”, adds Mr Sichrovský.
Olivier Hersent, Founder and CTO of Actility, comments:
“We are delighted to launch a pilot project on this scale for the first time in any Central European Country. Thanks to Ceske Radiokomunikace’s broadcast masts, we are able to build an extremely efficient LoRa network. Actility will provide all the essential tools for network planning, from spectrum analysis to network survey.”
LoRaWan: the protocol for Low Power Wide Area networks
A founding member of the LoRa Alliance, Actility works within the LoRa ecosystem of device and application providers to enable public or private networks connecting multiple applications onto the same network infrastructure. This means that only a few base stations are needed to cover an entire city or country, making the Internet of Things possible at minimal infrastructure investment.
