Safran Selected to Support Millicom in Driving IoT in Latin America

Safran Identity & Security announced that it has been selected by Millicom as one of its partners to supply secure elements and applications for Internet of Things (IoT) technology in Latin America.

Safran Identity & Security, a global leader in identity and security, today announced that it has been selected by Millicom, a leading telecom company dedicated to emerging markets in Latin America and Africa, as one of its partners to supply secure elements and applications for Internet of Things (IoT) technology in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

IoT technology is growing strongly in Latin America. According to IHS Technology, growth of over 25% per year is expected through to 2021, reaching 65 million connected devices in Latin America, that will use mobile technology to communicate with each other.

Safran is supporting Millicom in exploring business in the areas of IoT and Machine to Machine (M2M). Safran will deliver its robust M2M SIM card, which can handle extreme environmental, memory management, and long lifetime needs of Millicom’s M2M customers. In addition, a “lock and refresh” application will enable remote monitoring and management of the M2M cards in the field.
