ThingWorx Recognized for Fast and Easy Creation of IoT Applications and Dashboards.
PTC today announced it has been named an IoT Platform Leader for the second consecutive year by the Experton Group in its Industry 4.0/Internet of Things Vendor Benchmark 2017 report.
Experton Group identified and analyzed 15 IoT platform providers, six of which were stated as having a highly attractive product and service offering, a very strong market and competitive position, and placed in the Leader Quadrant. The report details the perceived strengths and challenges associated with each vendor.
Experton ranked PTC one of the two highest in the Leader Quadrant, citing the unique selling proposition of the PTC ThingWorx® IoT platform as being “the fast and easy creation of IoT applications and dashboards, also without in-depth IT skills and long learning phases.” ThingWorx is comprised of rapid application enablement, connectivity, machine learning capabilities, augmented reality, and integration with leading device clouds. These capabilities combine to deliver a comprehensive IoT technology stack that enables companies to securely connect assets, quickly create applications, and innovate new ways to capture value. Experton also recognized PTC for its strategic collaborations, thought-leader reputation, ecosystem of developers and system integrators, and strong PLM customer base.
“PTC, with its ThingWorx IoT platform, continues to lead the market segment,” said Arnold Vogt, senior advisor, Experton Group.
“Since our 2016 benchmark report was published, the company has made two additional strategic acquisitions that greatly strengthened its USP over the competition. The ThingWorx platform now includes augmented reality capabilities through the acquisition of the market leading Vuforia® AR technology. Also very strong in its favour is the acquisition of the leading Kepware® industrial automation technology. Regarding the ecosystem, PTC is also ahead of its competitors boasting a marketplace with over 200 ThingWorx-driven apps and extensions.”
Additionally, Experton Group ranked PTC as a Leader for Industrial Big Data Analytics Solutions, citing PTC’s focus on a 360° view of the development and production process and its strong reputation among engineers, designers, and developers in the manufacturing industry. “PTC is closer to product development and production than any other IT provider,” said Vogt.
Experton’s recognition punctuated a year of significant achievement for PTC’s IoT business. In 2016, PTC added a substantial number of new customers and partners to its IoT roster, integrated new industrial connectivity and machine learning technology into the ThingWorx® platform, launched a new augmented reality (AR) user experience capability, and improved the overall functionality of its ThingWorx IoT platform, while earning recognition and validation from many other industry groups.
“We’re pleased that the Experton Group has again recognized PTC’s strengths and market leading position,” said Jim Heppelmann, president and CEO, PTC. “We are focused on empowering our customers to capitalize on the Internet of Things by providing them with world-class tools and solutions. Our success at bridging the digital and physical worlds enables the fundamental transformation of the way products and systems are created, operated, and serviced.”
