Sequans Introduces New LTE Cat 1 Module for Sprint IoT

Sequans Communications S.A. today announced an agreement with Sprint to make available a new LTE Cat 1 module designed for the Sprint LTE network.

The new SP150Q module is based on Sequans’ Calliope LTE Cat 1 Platform and includes RF support for Sprint’s LTE bands, 2, 25/2, and 26/5. The Calliope Platform is compliant with 3GPP Release 10 and 11, supports LTE Cat 1 throughput, and is multiband FDD and TDD capable. The SP150Q module is the result of the collaboration of Sequans and Sprint on the development of connectivity solutions to support Sprint’s IoT strategy, and is the first of several planned LTE IoT products to become available.

“We are pleased to support Sprint’s IoT strategy and pleased to make this new module available for Sprint’s network,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “The SP150Q is a complete solution, offering Sprint’s IoT customers a quick and easy way to connect many types of IoT devices to Sprint’s LTE network.”

Ivo Rook, senior vice president, IoT for Sprint, said:

“The availability of this new LTE Cat 1 module from Sequans will enable our existing CDMA customers to move to LTE, and new customers to design devices quickly.”

“LTE Cat 1 is an important step in our IoT network development. Our collaboration with Sequans, a proven leader in LTE for IoT connectivity, helps us map out and complete our next generation IoT network.”

The SP150Q module comprises Sequans’ Calliope LTE Cat 1 Platform and all other elements necessary for a complete LTE modem system, including an LTE-optimized transceiver, a complete triple-band RF front end for Sprint LTE bands 12, 25/2, 26/5, and key interfaces, including USB 2.0 host and device, SDIO 3.0 host, USIM, HS-UART. SP150Q can seamlessly connect to a GNSS solution for asset and IoT device tracking. The SP150Q is pin-to-pin compatible with all Sequans’ Q series modules, enabling single platform support for multiple LTE categories.

The SP150Q LTE Cat 1 module and evaluation kits will be available in Q4.
