IoTerop Collaborates with STMicroelectronics to Accelerate IoT Cellular Adoption

IoTerop is working with STMicroelectronics to enhance Device Management capabilities and services based on Open Standards for IoT cellular device makers and solution vendors.

IoTerop, an ST Authorized Partner, has built a complete set of Device Management software tools and services optimized for STM32 cellular platforms to accelerate and ease the development, operation, and monetization of IoT solutions in Smart Metering, Smart Lighting, Logistics, and other Industrial applications.

Combining STMicroelectonics’ best-in-class microcontrollers that include NB-IoT / LTE-M cellular support with IoTerop’s IOWA LwM2M client & ALASKA LwM2M-based device management platform makes it ideal for a variety of applications that need extremely low-power consumption, and require secure, sustainable, and optimized IoT services.

By adding IoTerop’s device management software solutions on top of STM32 Cellular MCUs, customers gain access to simplified, automated remote operations from cloud to device which lowers IoT operational costs without sacrificing security. Customers can thus enable critical features in their IoT solution such as firmware updates over the air (FOTA), security provisioning, device configuration diagnostics and remote control, and data orchestration. These features capitalize on state-of-the-art Open Standards including OMA LwM2M 1.1 and 1.2, and IETF DTLS and OSCORE, where IoTerop sits on the Open Mobile Alliance SpecWorks’ Board that drives their specifications.

IoTerop provides IOWA Lightweight M2M SDK pre-compiled for STM32 Cellular platforms leveraging STM32 X-CUBE-CELLULAR, which abstracts the complexity and communication link working with cellular modems. To compliment, IoTerop provides a publicly accessible LwM2M test server for early test purposes and a highly scalable Device Management Platform named ALASKA which is able to operate cost-effective services & large-scale deployments.

Hatem Oueslati, IoTerop’s CEO, says:

“The STM32 Cellular offer significantly reduces the development time and costs of bringing IoT devices to life. By adding IoTerop’s IOWA & ALASKA software, STMicroelectronics’ customers, especially OEMs and solutions providers, add a full-complement of standard-based device management capabilities, and can reduce the challenges of building secure, cost-effective IoT solutions for global markets.”

“IOWA is an extremely compact memory footprint solution and, in combination with ALASKA’s scalable IoT service platform, makes a turnkey solution that offers STM32 developers real differentiation in performance, power consumption, and ease of integration of connectivity. This can easily accelerate time-to-market while still assuring a secure solution and standardization-based device management services, like FOTA, which are key factors in releasing an effective and efficient IoT product.” says Hakim Jaafar, STM32 Wireless Marketing director, STMicroelectronics.

STM32 demo binaries for B-L462E-CELL1 Discovery & P-L496G-CELL02 Discovery platforms are freely accessible for download. In addition, customers can either access the IOWA Evaluation SDK source code pre-built for STM32 cellular MCUs leveraging X-CUBE-CELLULAR, or purchase a Commercial IOWA License. They are also welcome to access IoTerop’s LwM2M LwM2M test server for prototyping their IoT solution end-to-end, and then scale-up to ALASKA Device Management Platform to manage the entire life-cycle of their device fleets remotely and securely.
