Leading IoT company NWave Technologies joins Weightless SIG to drive creation of open connectivity standard for the Internet of Things (IoT).
NWave Technologies Ltd, a leading vendor of IoT solutions and connectivity technology, today announced that it has joined the Weightless SIG in order to contribute to the rapid evolution of the recently
announced Weightless-N specification. Weightless-N is the new and unique open connectivity standard for IoT/M2M over ISM bands.
The Weightless SIG is the world’s leading M2M standards body, and is developing the Weightless communications open standard to enable efficient machine-to-machine communications.
Weightless-N, which will leverage NWave’s expertise in M2M communications and the IoT, will utilise Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) and software defined radio technology to deliver best in class connectivity solutions that give characteristics essential for the successful deployment of IoT applications. Minimal power consumption will enable terminal devices to operate in the field for up to ten years on a single AA form
factor battery. Simple terminal hardware utilizing low-cost components will enable modules to be deployed for around USD$2. Network costs will be minimized through excellent signal propagation characteristics, with an urban transmission range of up to 5km and of 20-30km in rural areas.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Jonathan Wiggin, CEO of NWave Technologies, said:
